What are some of the problems with the sensory room?

What is a Sensory Room?

A sensory room is a special room designed to develop a person's sense, usually through special lighting, music, and objects. It can be used as a therapy for children with limited communication skills.

Don't get me wrong, Sensory Rooms are a fantastic tool for helping distress an autistic child in the midst of a meltdown. However, there are a few problems I have discovered with them. The first being, they are only found in schools or charity based organisations that support those with additional needs. Whereas, parents that have autistic children will know that 9/10 times these meltdowns happen in the local supermarket. So what happens when you are out in public and there is no Sensory Room to go to? How does your child calm down? What helps them? This observation lead me to design a 'portable Sensory Room' in the format of a customisable toy.
